SMI Penthouse Gallery
(featured in Greenwich Magazine, October 2005)

Sandra Morgan has been an interior designer for twenty-five years and, as a designer, she had often wished first of all, that clients could see in their mind’s eye what she envisions for their home. Secondly, she believes that original art gives life and energy to one’s living space and should always be incorporated into the design plan. Now she has decided to show what she means when she promises “a dialogue between home furnishings and art.”

The SMI Penthouse Gallery is one flight up from her design offices. You enter through an artfully conceived door to find Morgan’s new space: an intimate decorator showhouse flooded with natural light, featuring art as the main event. The charming space includes living/dining areas, kitchen, bedroom/bath, and a smashing roof terrace fenced in bamboo (hence the Penthouse nomenclature). The rooms are replete with furniture finds, tabletop accessories and original works of art. Artwork includes watercolors, oils, pastels, botanical photographs, antique floral prints, ships engravings, and a special section of dog related paintings. Everything you see, from tiny to gigantic, is for sale.

Sandra Morgan’s Penthouse Gallery is located at 72 Arch Street, Greenwich (down the street from McArdle’s florist). The diamond patterned door at front of the building is open by appointment only. New shows, by invitation, are scheduled seasonally. Design offices are located at 70 Arch Street, rear of building. Please call 203-629-8121 for information.

Secret Spaces
(as featured in Fairfield County Home Magazine, Sep/Oct 2006)

The intriguing painted door is the first clue to the secret space found one flight up above the design studio of Sandra Morgan Interiors, Inc. In the summer of 2005 the design firm expanded its offices to include the Penthouse Gallery, a permanent show house featuring original paintings, fine prints and other unique collectables and decorative furnishings. Sandra, an interior designer with a passion for fine art, decided to combine the two worlds of art and design in an intimate setting where clients and friends are welcome to visit and browse at a leisurely pace. Paintings are displayed everywhere in the two-story space, illustrating how artwork enhances our environment. Whether installed in a narrow stairway, a small bamboo lined kitchen, a gazebo papered bath, or a bedroom painted three different pastel colors; artwork pleases the eye and inspires our thoughts.

As she often says, ''A beautiful room without a good painting, a handsomely framed print or a charming sketch is like a glass of champagne without the bubbles.''

Recent shows have included artists from New York to Florida, as well as local talent. The next show is scheduled to open with a rooftop preview reception Thursday, October 5, 2006, 5:30 – 8:30pm. Featured artists will be Penny Putnam of Greenwich, who will be exhibiting a special series of ''Secret Paintings'', Cynthia Kirkwood, a Vermont artist who will exhibit colorful figurative paintings inspired by her childhood in Bermuda, and Holly Cunningham of New York, whose oils and pastels bring Wolf Kahn’s landscapes to mind. As a special addition to the evening, Betsy Grant will be on hand with her stunning jewelry designs using precious and semi-precious stones.

A portion of the proceeds from all sales that evening will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association of America and ARC (Serving People with Special Needs).

Sandra’s fine art background as well as her former experience as a free-lance art consultant in New York City have come full circle to embrace her interior design projects. Her knowledge and expertise enable her to advise her clients on collecting art and the Penthouse Gallery removes some of the mystique usually associated with an austere gallery setting.

The Penthouse Gallery is located at 70 Arch Street, Greenwich, CT, 2nd floor and is open by appointment. For information regarding the October 5th, 2006, reception and further events please call (203) 629-8121, Monday – Friday 9 – 5:00pm. Our website address is www.sandramorganinteriors.com.
